Expanded Bus Service Coming To Southington
CT Transit is hoping to add a new bus line linking Southington to Plainville, which would open up routes to several other towns.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — Southington bus passengers will soon able to journey straight to Plainville, where they could visit destinations there, or board buses taking them to other locales.
Southington Councilwoman Valerie DePaolo spoke to the full Southington Town Council on Sept. 11 about a recent tour of a proposed bus route she took with Southington Town Manager Mark Sciota and Southington Town Council Chairperson Victoria Triano.
Leading the tour with the Southington trio was Brian McLaughlin, who is the director of systemwide service planning at CT Transit, which operates the statewide bus service.

DePaolo said the group took a bus tour from Plainville Center at the Plainville Library into Southington's Queen Street area.
"So what will happen is residents can now get to Plainville and they can hook up to buses that will go to Bristol, New Britain and Hartford," DePaulo said.

She said CT Transit is still fine-tuning details, but the hope is to have those routes up and running by later in the fall.
"Basically they're looking at where the stops could be, making sure they're ADA compliant," DePaolo said.
Ultimately, she said expanded bus routes for Southington residents, especially those without cars, will add increased mobility for folks in that situation.
"That's just really great for Southington residents," DePaolo said.
