Flanders School to Unveil Its New Playground

The Southington school won a competition and received a new playground made from recycled materials.

Next week the students and teachers at Flanders Elementary School will unveil their new playground made from recycled oral care products after winning the TerraCycle® Recycled Playground Challenge.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned at the Victoria Drive school at 10 a.m. Oct. 21.

Flanders Elementary earned the highest total number of Playground Credits in the TerraCycle® Recycled Playground Challenge to become the grand prize winner of a playground made from toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes and floss containers. Participating schools earned Playground Credits for shipments of oral care waste sent to TerraCycle, as well as online votes cast during the contest window.

Flanders earned a total of 240,436 Playground Credits by recycling waste and online voting.

The contest launched in March 2015, in partnership with the Colgate-Palmolive Company (“Colgate”) and ShopRite stores. All New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Connecticut and Maryland schools participating in the Colgate® Oral Care Brigade™, a free recycling program operated by Colgate and TerraCycle, were eligible to participate.
