Foundation Launches Volunteer Hub For 4 Towns, Including Southington And Berlin

The new online hub connects area residents with volunteer opportunities at local nonprofits and helps nonprofits find volunteers.

SOUTHINGTON/BERLIN, CT — Looking to give back to your community, but don't know where to start?

Residents of four area towns, including Southington and Berlin, now have a new way to connect with volunteer opportunities through an online platform launched by the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain.

The foundation announced the launch of GreaterNewBritainVolunteers.org, a free website designed to link volunteers with nonprofit organizations serving New Britain, Berlin, Plainville, and Southington.

Foundation officials said the platform was created to address a longstanding gap in the region: the absence of a centralized place where residents can find ways to volunteer and where nonprofits can recruit help.

“Greater New Britain is filled with incredible organizations in need of volunteers, and people who want to help but simply don’t know where to start,” said Kaylah Milligan, the foundation's president and chief executive officer.

“This site is about inviting, informing, and inspiring people to get involved in their community in whatever way is meaningful to them and within their capacity.”

It allows nonprofits to post volunteer opportunities at no cost.

Residents can browse listings without registering and contact organizations directly through the platform.

Opportunities range from short-term tasks to ongoing commitments.

Examples listed include helping clean local parks, stocking food shelves, assisting at community events, mentoring youth, supporting seniors, or serving on nonprofit boards.

Foundation officials said the platform is moderated by the organization to ensure listings remain accurate and current.

Milligan said the effort is intended to make community involvement easier for residents who may have limited time but still want to contribute.

“Our goal is to make philanthropy accessible—whether that’s your time, talent, or treasure,” Milligan said. “Your experience matters, and even a few hours of your time can make a difference.”

The foundation encourages residents throughout the region to visit the website to explore available opportunities and connect with local organizations.

The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain supports nonprofits, education, and human services initiatives across the four towns through grantmaking, scholarships, and community partnerships.
