Free Winter Garb Available At Southington 'Pop-Up Shop' Friday

Southington is giving away winter clothes at the local senior center Friday, as it also seeks men's winter coat donations.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — With the thermometer cooling, Southington Community Services' "Operation Stay Warm" is actively looking for help as it looks to help those in the community ward off Jack Frost.

And on Friday, Nov. 15, people are invited to the Calendar House Senior Center in Southington, 388 Pleasant St., Southington.

There, the town and senior center will host a special "pop-up shop" where folks can come and help themselves to myriad pieces of clothing that will help folks battle the cold.

Helping Southington Community Services are those who donated items, as well as the Calendar House's "Granny Squares" knitting/crocheting group, whose work helped.

Meanwhile, Southington Community Services said it is especially in need of men's winter coat donations as part of "Operation Stay Warm," which is an ongoing campaign through Dec. 6.

"There is an immediate need for new and/or gently used men's coats in all sizes," wrote the department.

Donations of men's coats (and other items) can be dropped off at the Southington Community Services office at 91 Norton St., Plantsville, from 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.
