A guide to the festival, which starts this Friday.

The 46th annual Apple Harvest Festival starts this Friday in Southington. About 100,000 people attend the festival annually, which runs on two consecutive weekends in October.

How do I get to the festival/parking?

Information from brochure

To Downtown Southington/Festival Grounds
GPS Address = 75 Main St., Southington
FROM I‐84: Take Exit 32 (Queen St./Rt. 10). Continue
south on Rt. 10 for 2 ½ miles into downtown Southington
where the festival is held.
FROM I‐91: Take I‐691 exit to Waterbury. Follow I‐691
West to Exit 4. Turn right off exit onto Rt. 322. At first
traffic light, turn right onto Rt. 120/Meriden Ave. Follow
for several miles. At traffic light, turn right onto Rt. 10
North and continue straight into downtown area.

To Shuttle Buses at Southington High School
GPS Address = 720 Pleasant St., Southington
FROM I‐84: Take Exit 32 (Queen St./Rt. 10). Continue
south on Rt. 10 for approx. 1 ½ miles. At traffic light (by
Oak Hill Cemetery), turn left onto Flanders St. and follow 1
mile to Southington High School (on the right).
FROM I‐91: Take I‐691 exit towards Waterbury. Follow
I‐691 West to Exit 4. Turn right off exit onto Rt. 322. At
first traffic light, turn right onto Rt. 120/Meriden Ave. and
follow for 2 ½ miles. Turn right onto Belleview Ave. and
continue to stop sign. Turn right onto Berlin St. and follow
¾ mile. Turn left onto Pleasant St. Continue straight 1
mile to Southington High School (on the left).

What are some things to look forward to?

Fireworks are scheduled for Saturday Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. at Dog Park on Mill Street. The rain date is Oct. 11.

The parade kicks off at 2 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 5. on Summer Street and continues down to Bristol Street, Center Street and to Main Street. The viewing stand is located near the intersection of Main Street and Berlin Road. The parade disperses at Eden Avenue.

No Apple Harvest Festival is complete without apple fritters, which are prepared by the Zion Lutheran Church of Southington. The delightful treat is so popular it has its own Facebook page with more than 1,100 likes.

Below are booth hours, but the booth may close early if apple fritters are sold out. A dozen fritters costs $ and a half-dozen is $5.

Multiple road races kick-off at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 5. The races include a five-mile run, a 5k and an easier two-mile walk.

There are also a variety of children’s activities, contests and musical entertainment at the festival.
