Knowing how to fall safely can prevent serious injury

UNIONVILLE – Sometimes, there's no way to avoid a fall. However, knowing how to fall correctly, whether forward or backwards, can reduce the risk or lessen the severity of injury. A free program, “How to Fall Safely,” will be held Monday, Oct. 22, 1 p.m., at Farmington Senior Center, 321 New Britain Ave. Presenter will be Emil Johnson, program manager, GoodLife Fitness, the program sponsor.

GoodLife Fitness, a program of Hartford HealthCare offered at eight locations, is geared toward the older adult to build energy, strength and endurance for an active lifestyle. An exercise physiologist works one-to-one with each person to improve muscular strength, balance, cardiovascular health and self-esteem, while reducing the risk of falls and injuries.
