SOUTHINGTON/BRISTOL, CT — One of the nation's longest-running amusement parks has announced some changes for 2024, with upgrades at some attractions, but the elimination of others.

Lake Compounce, which is located in Southington and Bristol, said this week the park's bumper cars, Jolly Jester kiddie ride, and the classic trolly ride that parallels the lake on site will all be eliminated.

The Jolly Jester ride was a children's version of the park's pirate ship ride.

Erica Kulla, Lake Compounce's guest experience and retail manager, said those attractions "have been removed as we continue to invest in our marquee attractions."

"Our team is constantly evaluating park operations to bring more than 50 world-class rides and entertainment options to the families of New England and beyond," Kulla wrote to Patch in an e-mail.

She said several existing rides will be upgraded, including a new track for the Wildcat roller coaster and new track segments for the park's iconic Boulder Dash roller coaster.

No schedule for 2024 has been released yet, but the park — whose official address is 822 Lake Ave., Bristol — traditionally opens in the spring with full-week hours starting over the summer.

It also has special Halloween and Christmas celebrations with limited attractions, but features a fully decorated park in tune with the holiday.
