Main Street Community Foundation Awards Nearly $100,000 in Scholarships
Three Southington residents were among the scholarship winners announced this week.

The Main Street Community Foundation awarded scholarships totaling close to $100,000 to 83 local students on June 27, including students from Southington.
The Richard A. DellaVecchia Scholarship was awarded to Ashley Wheeler and the Robert E. and Angeline P. McCormack Scholarship was awarded to Margaret Fletz. In addition, Michael Petit, a Southington resident, received the Doris Lazorik Memorial Scholarship and the Scholarship.
The scholarships were awarded during the foundation's annual Scholarship Reception at the Bristol Public Library. A total of 101 scholarships were awarded from 43 scholarship funds established by donors at the foundation.
The reception to celebrate the donors and recipients was attended by more than 160 people and featured special guest Stacey Tank, a former scholarship award recipient and current Senior Vice President and Chief Corporate Relations Officer of Heineken USA.
Scholarships are available annually to students from the towns of Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington and Wolcott as well as other communities who are at varying levels of their academic careers. The 2012 scholarship recipients are as follows:

The Main Street Community Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for both present and future generations in the communities served by encouraging and promoting gift planning, prudent stewardship of assets, effective grantmaking and community leadership. A nonprofit public charity, created by private citizens, the foundation works with donors in Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington and Wolcott who wish to build permanent charitable endowments to support their communities. Since its founding in 1995, the foundation has provided over $8 million in grants and scholarships.
