Southington's Bartenders To Put On Show For United Way

Southington bartenders will compete next week in a vodka cocktail contest fundraiser benefiting United Way services.

SOUTHINGTON, CT— Tom Cruise will not be showing up in Southington next week (at least we doubt it).

But the spirit of his 1988 hit movie 'Cocktail,' about a flamboyant bartender's coming of age, will definitely be on display at a special fundraiser for a prominent local charity organization.

The United Way of Southington will host its fourth annual "Southington Cocktail Competition" next week at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, bringing together local bartenders, food, entertainment, and fundraising for community services.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Organizers said the competition will feature area bartenders creating original cocktails using Tito’s Handmade Vodka as this year’s featured spirit.

Attendees will sample drinks and vote for their favorite cocktail while enjoying food, desserts, coffee, and nonalcoholic mocktails.

The evening will also include live entertainment, a raffle, and a silent auction.

General admission tickets cost $60 in advance and includes cocktail tastings, food, and beverages. Tickets purchased at the door will cost $65, according to organizers.

The event is open only to guests aged 21 and older, and valid identification will be required for entry.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will support the United Way of Southington, which provides financial assistance and community support services for residents facing basic survival needs.

The organization traces its roots to 1926, when it operated as the Southington Community Chest before becoming the United Way of Southington in 1972.

Organizers said the nonprofit has continued assisting residents through economic and personal hardships for nearly a century.
