Make Easter Eggs The Ukrainian Way In Southington
Seats are filling up for a popular program on Ukrainian Easter eggs with Southington Community Cultural Arts.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Ukrainian culture and traditions cannot be destroyed, as evil Russian invaders are learning in the ongoing war against the peaceful democratic nation.
And an upcoming program with Southington Community Cultural Arts later this month stands to prove that the culture and art of Ukraine is both beloved and beautiful.
On March 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., folks will be able to enjoy a workshop celebrating the Ukrainian Easter tradition of Pysanky — the creation of ornate Easter eggs that are, shall we say, much more intricate than dunking them in colored Paas water.

SCCA will host Father Paul Luniw at its headquarters on 93 Main St., Southington.
Luniw is an "internationally recognized" expert on pysanky and he will be conducting the program, which will provide participants with a chance to make their own fancy Easter eggs.

According to SCCA, Luniw presented an egg to Pope Francis in 2019 and explained the process of creating the artistic masterpieces to him.
Utilizing beeswax and decorations, participants will "go home with a beautiful masterpiece," wrote SCCA.
The participation fee, which includes all materials, is $40 for members and $45 for non-members, with participants asked to bring home a container to take their eggs home.
Seats are filling up fast, according to SCCA, so folks are asked to register quickly.
