Man Accused of Roughing Up Woman, Child at Southington Motel

A man is accused of roughing up a woman holding and child at a Southington motel.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A Southington man was taken into custody after a screaming tirade Monday that involved roughing up a woman and child at a local motel, police said.

John McGill, 40, was charged with risk of injury to a minor, third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree breach of peace and and disorderly conduct, police said.

McGill was outside the office at the Motel 6 located at 625 Queen St. yelling at bystanders and refusing to leave, according to a report. He had been in an argument with a woman that turned physical, police said.

McGill is accused of grabbing the woman and shaking and hitting her while she was holdng thier 8-month-old child, according to a report.

He also punched a lamp and damaged a shower rod in a room, according to a report.

The woman suffered a minor injury and the child was not hurt, police said.

McGill was held overnight on a $20,000 bond and was to appear in Bristol Superior Court on July 24, police said.
