Negotiators Talk 'Suicidal' Resident Out of Southington Home

Police reached a peaceful solution to a potential standoff on Tuesday evening in Southington.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Negotiators were able to talk a suicidal resident out of a Southington home on Tuesday evening without incident.

At 5:27 p.m. on Tuesday, Southington police received a call about a Suicidal, 71-year-old woman at a Marion Avenue residence. Police were told she was alone and had access to guns, according to a report.

Police set up a perimeter around the area to divert vehicular traffic and established a command post with the Central Region Emergency Response Team.

Negotiators made contact with the woman and, at about 7:30 p.m., she agreed to exit the home and was taken to a local medical facility via ambulance for a mental health evaluation, according to a report.

Officers found three guns inside the home, none of which was loaded, according to a report. No ammunition was found in the house, police said, and the guns were seized.
