Following his time in Providence, he returned to college to become a certified teacher.
He attended Central Connecticut State University and received his certification in elementary education in 1998.
Hergott has been married to his wife, Sandy, since 1998 and they have two children who attend the Catholic schools Fordham University and Providence College.
Hergott began his teaching career with the Archdiocese of Hartford in 2001, teaching first grade at St. Mary School in Meriden from 2001 to 2007.
He had the opportunity to come to Southington and teach at St. Thomas School, serving as the middle school religion, social studies, and history teacher in 2007.
That school merged with other parishes in town and, in 2015, it became St. Luke.
Over the past 17 years, Hergott has taught other grade levels and served as head teacher and, most recently, as the school’s athletic director.
“As we look to the future, I envision St. Luke experiencing a growth in enrollment while strengthening our Catholic faith-based educational opportunities," Hergott said in a statement.
"I look forward to working with the members of St. Luke Parish and school to develop enriching educational experiences as one of the Archdiocese STREAM (science, technology, religion, engineering, arts and math) academies.”
