“Thank you to the Board of Education for its confidence in my ability to lead the Pupil Services Department,” Aresco said in a statement.

She said her focus will be on “promot[ing] excellence in services for students with special needs while strengthening partnerships with families and school teams.”

Aresco said she plans to prioritize student-centered decision-making, staff support, and collaboration across schools and the community.

“As we move forward, my focus will remain on keeping students at the center of our work, supporting staff in their vital roles, and strengthening our practices while meeting all state and federal responsibilities,” she said.

Southington Superintendent of Schools Steven Madancy said he is confident in Aresco’s leadership.

“Amy and I have had several conversations about this opportunity, and I am confident she has the vision, skill, and commitment needed to support students, staff, and families through her leadership of the Pupil Services Department,” Madancy said.

Aresco holds bachelor’s degrees in elementary and special education and mathematics education from Keene State College, as well as a master’s degree in special education and a sixth-year degree in educational leadership from Southern Connecticut State University.

She began her career in Meriden Public Schools, where she worked as a special education teacher for 14 years before joining Southington Public Schools.
