Police Dog Snags Stash After Stop in Southington
A police dog uncovered drugs in a car after a traffic stop in Southington, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A police dog uncovered drugs in a car after a traffic stop in Southington, police said.
At 2:18 a.m. last Thursday, Kathryn Ford, 32 of Oakville, was stopped for a motor vehicle violation in
the area of 1845 Meriden Waterbury Turnpike, police said.

The vehicle was not registered or insured, police said.
During the stop Southington police dog “Kira” was summoned to the scene and detected the presence of drugs inside the vehicle, according to a report. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed prescription antidepressant pills not in their original container, two small "baggies" of suspected cocaine, wax folds containing an "unknown substance," a pair of glass pipes with burnt residue, a metal pipe with burnt residue, a separate container containing suspected cocaine and three needles, according to a report.

Ford was subsequently charged with two counts of possessing a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, the illegal possession of a prescription drug, having an illegible marker plate, operating an Unregistered vehicle and failure to have the proper insurance.
Ford was held on $10,000 cash or surety bond, which she posted, and she is set to return to court on Sept. 26, records show.
