Shuttered Southington Firehouse Reopens Earlier Than Expected

The firehouse was temporarily closed last month to allow for the installation of a new generator.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — One of two local fire stations in town temporarily closed for renovations and/or modifications has now reopened.

According to the Southington Fire Department on March28, Station 5 on River Street — which closed on March 13 — has now reopened

The department installed a new generator at the building and work, according to the SFD, was done earlier than anticipated.

Initially, Station 5 was expected to be closed for about a month.

While briefly shuttered, Station 5 operated out of the SFD's main headquarters at 310 N. Main St.

Meanwhile, Station 2 on West Main Street remains closed to allow for work on the Plantsville neighborhood renovation project.

As a result, Engine 21 and Tanker 2 operate out of Station 3 on Clark Street.
