Southington Community Hoops Tourney To Benefit Local Education Foundation

The free Southington Community Basketball Tournament is this weekend at Southington High School to support education programs.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The annual Southington Community Basketball Tournament featuring local teams will take place Sunday, March 15, at Southington High School, offering a free, family-friendly event to support local education initiatives.

The event, sponsored by the Southington Education Foundation and the DePaolo Family Foundation, is scheduled from 1:30 p.m. to about 4 p.m. in the high school gymnasium, 720 Pleasant St., Southington.

Teams representing local organizations, including the Southington Fire Department and the Southington Police Department, are expected to participate in the tournament.

Both departments invited residents to attend and support their teams during the afternoon of the games.

Organizers said the event is open to the public at no cost, though donations will be accepted to benefit the Southington Education Foundation, a nonprofit that supports programs that enrich educational opportunities for students in the town’s public schools.

A halftime basketball shooting contest for children is also planned.

Organizers said registration is required to participate in the youth contest.

The Southington Education Foundation said its mission is to enhance learning opportunities for local students by working with the community to support educational initiatives and encourage lifelong learning.

The tournament was previously scheduled for an earlier date and has now been rescheduled to Sunday, March 15.

Residents are invited to attend and bring their families for the afternoon event.
