Southington Girls Capture State Open Track and Field Championship

The Lady Knights captured the team title for the first time in school history.

NEW BRITAIN, CT — Dominance in the field events, including three individual victories, enabled Southington High School to capture its first-ever team championship at the State Open girls track and field meet Monday at Willow Brook Park.

Amanda Howe was a double winner for the Lady Knights, prevailing in the shot put with a heave of 40 feet, 4 inches and the discus with a throw of 132 feet, 3 inches. Megan Biscoglio won the pole vault competition, clearing 12 feet, 6 inches to tie the State Open record, held by Emily Savage of Weston since 2013.

Janette Wadolowski placed fourth in the javelin toss, earning five critical points that gave Southington a total of 35, three more than two-time defending champion Bloomfield.
