Southington Historical Homes Rich with History

One of Southington's finest historical homes is for sale.

For longtime Southington residents, the name Sam Bowers may ring a bell. He was truly about philanthropy to and for the town for he loved Southington.  If you walk the halls at Bradley Memorial, you will see his portrait, as he was actively involved with the hospital. His longtime home just five doors down from the hospital is on the market.  When Sam passed away, he left the home and it's contents to charity.  It has only ever had 5 owners, which is remarkable given its age.

The house, though an antique, is in remarkable condition, having been lovingly restored by the home's third owner, Fire Chief Buddy Clark.  The home is known in town as the "Sam Bowers house", though the original owner was Charles Beckley who built the home in 1900.  The gorgeous Queen Anne has all of the wonderful period details, with lots of stained glass throughout, a carved tiger oak built-in china cabinet in the dining room, a telephone alcove.  It also has modern conveniences without adverse affect to the original splendor.  The parlor room and formal dining room are reminiscent of Victorian days gone by.

For more information on this home at 155 Meriden Avenue or other of the fine historic homes in the Oakland Road Historic district, you can find detailed info on Wikipedia.
