Southington Library Collects Thousands Of Pounds Of Food For Needy

The library's recent 'Food for Fines' drive resulted in a massive amount of aid for Southington Community Services.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Southington Public Library's recent "Food for Fines" drive exchanging library book amnesty for community donations has produced positive results.

According to Southington Community Services, the campaign, which concluded at the end of last year, resulted in 1,222 pounds of non-perishable items collected during the holiday season and a total of 2,753 pounds in 2023.

In "Food for Fines," Southington Library late fees were waived if scofflaws donated non-perishable food, paper goods, and toiletries to the cause.
