Southington Library's 'Happy Accidents' On Display For All To See

In the style of Bob Ross, the Southington Library's recently completed youth painting program has led to a large art exhibit all May long.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Southington Public Library this month is full of "Happy Accidents," but guests needn't fret.

There's nothing nefarious about them. And, these "accidents" are on display for all to see.

The library throughout May is displaying the artwork of young participants in the recently completed "Happy Accidents" painting program, which was based on the teachings of the late Bob Ross.

A PBS icon whose cultural and artistic influence has grown stronger since he died in 1995, Ross is known for his calm voice and fun, engaging painting lessons from his classic "Joy of Painting" series.

One of his catchphrases whenever he erred on a painting was calling them "happy accidents" instead of mistakes.

Hence, the name of the Southington Public Library's popular program, which lasted from October 2023 to last month, with May being the month for the exhibit.

"Each junior artist created a portfolio of work they are very proud of," wrote the library.

The program was funded with the help of the Friends of the Southington Public Library and Ocean State Job Lot of Southington.

The exhibit is on display at the library all month long. The library, located at 255 Main St., is open Monday-Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
