Plans To Improve Southington Park's Infrastructure Less Than Expected
Town wants to keep the savings for possible future needs, though.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — With a new pool and kiddie playscape on the horizon, Southington's Recreation Park is also about to be the beneficiary of a large sidewalk, driveway and parking lot project.
And, according to town officials, the price tag for those park improvements is way under budget, according to the Southington Town Council Sept. 26.
The council that day unanimously approved spending $677,429 for the work, which will be done by three separate contractors via already budgeted funds.

Southington Public Works Director Annette Turnquist updated the council on plans for improvements at the park, which is located at 25 Maxwell Noble Drive.
She said the town had planned on spending $750,000 for the park improvements and three contractors are pegged for the work, which is comprised of grading and paving, concrete work and drainage work.

While the project costs is $72,571 less than budgeted, town officials said they would like to keep that figure in reserve should this project, or others, see a hike in costs, a common inflationary bugaboo these days.
