Southington PD: Several Detours, Road Closings Today

Road construction projects are underway in Southington's Plantsville section this week.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — With significant road construction work underway in town, Southington police Thursday morning said several roads will be closed and detours utilized throughout town.

According to the Southington Police Department, motorists should be aware of the following impacts for today, Thursday, March 21:

• West Main Street: Westbound traffic only from Summer to Church streets. Eastbound traffic detoured onto Church Street to Cowles Avenue to Summer Street to West Center Street.

• Summer Street — from West Main Street to Cowles Avenue — is northbound traffic only. Local residents will be allowed to pass through.

• Merrill Avenue will be closed to eastbound traffic. Westbound traffic on Merrell Avenue will be allowed to flow normally from Oak Street.

The Plantsville section of town is in the midst of a massive sidewalk and roadway overhaul to improve pedestrian/motorist access and safety.
