Southington's Child Switch Flippers Chosen For Holiday Light Displays

One ceremony is Friday, Dec. 2, at the Southington Town Green, the other is Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Plantsville Town Green.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Two lucky local children have been named to officially kickstart Southington's plunge into the holiday season.

With the start of the new month comes the Town of Southington's announcement of the local winners of the annual contest to turn on the Christmas lights at two prominent holiday ceremonies.

According to local officials, his year's winners are Mavrey Girskis, who will flip the switch to turn on the lights at the Southington Town Green on Friday, while Aviyana Picone will turn on the lights next week at the Plantsville Town Green.

The Southington Recreation Department held its 10th annual "Light up the Green" contest to select two local children aged 3-10 to have the honor of turning on the light displays.

The Southington Town Green ceremony is Friday, Dec. 2, at 5:30 p.m.

The Plantsville Town Green's display will be turned on as the kick-off for the "Christmas in the Village" event on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 5:30 p.m.
