'Southington Reads 2024' To Feature Best-Selling Author
Registration for the free event March 13 is ongoing, though spots are limited in the town's annual literary celebration.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Registration is available now for a special event hosted by the Southington Public Library next month that celebrates the joy of reading.
"Southington Reads 2024" will take place Wednesday, March 13, at 7 p.m. at the Aqua Turf Club, 556 Mulberry St., Plantsville.
The annual literary celebration brings a big-name author to discuss her work and the joys of literacy.

This year, "Southington Reads" will host Ayana Mathis, a bestselling author of the featured Oprah's Book Club work titled "The Twelve Tribes of Hattie" and her new novel "The Unsettled."
Mathis is an instructor in the Hunter College master of fine arts program in New York City.

Though free, registration for the program — which opened on Feb. 14 — is required and spots are limited, though several spots were available as of Feb. 28.
To prepare for the program, small and large print copies of those two works are available at the library to borrow.
Those interested can also read "The Twelve Tribes of Hattie" via the Libby App with their Southington library card or stream the audiobook of "The Unsettled" with eGO, the Connecticut State Library's statewide library eBook platform (In the app store as The Palace Project).
Local groups looking to attend must have each member registering for the program separately, wrote library officials.
