Southington Teacher of the Year to be Honored Monday
Kennedy Middle School social studies teacher Christopher Richter will be honored at the Board of Education meeting.

The Southington Public Schools’ 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year social studies teacher Christopher Richter of Kennedy Middle School will be honored at a reception Monday night prior to the Board of Education meeting at the Municipal Center.
Richter, who was recognized at the 2015-2016 Staff Convocation on Aug 24, lives in Glastonbury and has been teaching in Southington for the past eight years. Richter was originally hired in August 2007 as a Social Studies teacher at Kennedy Middle School. Prior to teaching in Southington, he taught in Rocky Hill for one year.
Richter earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences in 2006 from Central Connecticut State University and then earned his Master’s Degree in Special Education, also from Central Connecticut State University, in 2009. Richter is an advocate and an inspiration for teaching and learning. Aside from his regular instruction, Richter has served as a team leader and advised several clubs at Kennedy Middle School including the Lego-League, Podcasting Club, Improv, Comedy Team, Ski club, and the talent show.

Richter served as the chairman of the Southington Public Schools technology planning committee from 2012 to 2014. Richter attended the U.S. News STEM conference in Austin, TX in 2012. In 2014, he was instrumental in the creation of the STEM Academy at Camp Sloper sponsored by the Southington Education Foundation.
Richter has been married to his wife Jamie for two years and recently accompanied her on a one-year trip to India where he spent time working with educational startups and STEM foundations.

The board meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. with an executive session followed by the reception and then the regular meeting at 7:30 p.m.
