Southington's 'Pop-Up Prom Shop' Wraps Up Successful 2024
Southington Community Services doled out 77 free prom dresses to students so they could enjoy an affordable prom season.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — As prom season winds down, a special program in Southington helping young people navigate the fiscal adventures of prom season is finished as well.
And, according to Southington Community Services, a lot of young people were helped in 2024.
The department recently announced the closure of its "pop-up prom shop," a store comprised of donated items for prom season that are free of charge for teens.

According to the department, 77 free prom gowns were given out, 26 short dresses, five jackets and "lots of shoes, jewelry and accessories."
Prom season is often a budget-busting component of high school life and many cash-strapped families cannot afford to go to a prom, which can cost thousands of dollars.

Enter the "pop-up prom shop," which provides high-quality, stylish prom accessories to teens not just in Southington, but the area as well.
For now, the department is still looking for donations to stock the shelves for next year.
"Please consider donating your used prom apparel as we will be accepting prom donations year round to help restock for next season," wrote Southington Community Services.
