Special 5K To Impact Traffic Saturday In Southington, Cheshire

Southington police Thursday said multiple roads in both towns will be temporarily closed in both towns.

SOUTHINGTON/CHESHIRE, CT — Motorists in the Southington/Cheshire area Saturday morning are being warned about potential traffic impacts from a popular road race.

Southington police said more than 1,000 people will be on the roads of both towns for the O'Shenanigans 5K & Wee Mile event, which the Hartford Marathon Foundation hosts.

Police released a list of street closures and times Thursday to prepare motorists for the event.

The following roads will be closed, along with the times of their closure:

• Canal Street (from Burritt Street to the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike) — 9:15 to 11:15 a.m.

• Canal Street (from the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike to Peck Lane); Peck Lane (from Canal Street to Schoolhouse Road); and Schoolhouse Road (from Peck Lane to the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail) — from 9:55 to 10:30 a.m.

• Farmington Canal Heritage Trail (from Schoolhouse Road to Burritt Street) and Burritt Street (from Canal Street to Clark Street) — from 10 to 11 a.m.

"Roads will reopen as runners pass," wrote the SPD. "When possible, police will direct crossing traffic during the race. Please expect delays and detours."
