Stolen Car Crashes Into Home After Southington Shoplifting Caper

Two teens have been charged after a stolen car crashed into the steps of a home in Southington after a shoplifting incident, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A stolen vehicle struck a home in Southington Sunday following a shoplifting incident involving two juveniles, police said.

At noontime Monday, police received a call from Queen Street Liquors about two men shoplifting at the store.

The shop is located at 1079 Queen St.

The pair fled in a vehicle down Aircraft Road before fleeing on foot after crashing the vehicle into two other vehicles and the steps of a mobile home on Hemlock Road, police said.

Police then discovered the vehicle involved in the crash — an Audi A4 — was reported stolen out of Torrington, according t0 a report.

SPD officers and Southington's Auto Theft Task Force, located the pair — two 16-year-olds from Waterbury. The vehicle the juveniles were driving, 2009 Audi A4, was reported stolen out of Torrington. The two had fled on foot toward BJ's Wholesale Club, according to a report.

They stole several items from the store, police said.

One 16-year-old boy, the driver of the car, was charged in Southington with second-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny and interfering with an officer. He was also issued a misdemeanor summons charging him with reckless driving, failure to drive in the proper lane, driving without a license and evading responsibility.

The second 16-year-old was charged with second- and sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny in the sixth degree and interfering with an officer.

Both teens were turned over to the custody of their parents.

There was no reported structural damage to the home and no injuries were reported, police said.
