Teen Charged for Kicking, Biting and Spitting Incident at a Prom in Southington​

He was refused entrance to the event at the Aqua Turf, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT - A teen from Hamden who is accused of spitting on an ambulance crew member, kicking police officers and trying to bite other officers after being refused entrance to a prom is now facing criminal charges, law enforcement officials said.

Southington police on Wednesday said that Nicholas Maratea, 19 of Hamden, surrendered to authorities after learning that a warrant had been issued for his arrest.
The prom was on May 28 at the Aqua Turf banquet hall.

Maratea was charged with interfering with an officer; assault of public safety, emergency medical, public transit, or health care personnel; and second-degree breach of peace, according to a police report. He was released on a $1,500 non-surety bond and given a court appearance date of July 5 at Bristol Superior Court, according to a police report.
According to the warrant, Maratea was attending a prom at the Aqua Turf on May 28 when he
became involved in an argument. Maratea was intoxicated was not going to be allowed into the prom, according to the warrant.
Officers were "concerned" that Maratea may have "mixed alcohol with medications" and first-responders were trying to get him to an ambulance for an evaluation, according to a police report. Maratea resisted attempts by officers to escort him to an ambulance and kicked two cops and attempted to bite another officer, according to a police report.
Maratea also spit on a paramedic during the incident, according to a police report.
