Two Crashes Cause Highway Havoc In Southington

Both wrecks happened a short time apart on Interstate 84 Monday afternoon.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Interstate 84 has become a motorist's nightmare in Southington as two separate accidents have lanes closed and traffic backed up Monday afternoon.

The first accident was a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 84 east between exits 31 and 32, according to the state Department of Transportation.

This was reported at 2:35 p.m. and it closed the left lane.

DOT officials said, as of 2:52 p.m., it was "unknown" when this scene would be cleared.

Meanwhile, a few minutes later, a tractor trailer traveling in that vicinity between exiths 31 and 32 crashed in the eastbound lane at about 3:07 p.m., resulting in the center lane being closed.
