Vehicle Fire Cleared In Southington: UPDATE

SOUTHINGTON, CT —A vehicle fire on Interstate 691 in Southington had reduced the highway to one lane, causing serious traffic backups, but the fire is now out and the scene cleared.

According to the state Department of Transportation, the vehicle blaze was on I-691 east between exits 5 and 3.

As a result of the incident, only one lane was open and traffic was congested between exits 7 and 5 for 2.2 miles, according to the DOT.

The situation was first reported at 11:18 a.m. and it was cleared after 1 p.m. and it is no longer on the DOT incident report.
