In 2006, she started her education career in Bloomfield as a classroom teacher, working her way up to administrative positions since.
Southington Superintendent of Schools Steven Madancy said Williams was the right fit for Derynoski.
"Throughout our search process, it was clear that Mrs. Williams was a candidate who could
maintain and elevate the high expectations and standard of excellence the DES community
has come to expect. We are excited to welcome a leader of Mrs. Williams's caliber to our
team," Madancy said.
At the April 25 Southington school board meeting, local officials welcomed Williams with smiles and good wishes as she was unanimously appointed.
She was then asked to speak a few words to board members.
"As we often do, we put you right on the spot," Southington Board of Education Chairperson Colleen Clark jokingly said after a round of applause.
An excited Williams spoke before board members after her hiring, indicating excitement for her new job and gratitude to the school system where she started her career.
"I will say, after 18 years in an incredible school district in Bloomfield, coming somewhere new can be a little nerve-wracking and I cannot wait to get started to meet and get to know you and get the fun beginning," she said.
