SOUTHINGTON, CT — Firefighters contained an intense mobile home fire Wednesday afternoon on Cedar Springs Circle, preventing flames from spreading to a neighboring home, according to the Southington Fire Department.

The department was dispatched at 12:12 p.m., March 4, to 19 Cedar Springs Circle after a report of a house fire.

Firefighters from Squad 5 spotted a visible column of smoke while leaving the station and requested a working fire response, wrote the SFD.

Squad 5 arrived in about 3½ minutes and reported a “well-involved mobile home with exposures and some extension to a nearby home,” officials said.

The homeowner had already exited the structure before firefighters arrived.

Shift Commander Car 4 arrived shortly after and established command.

Crews deployed a 1¾-inch handline and made a brief interior attack to knock down the fire and limit its spread.

Firefighters later withdrew from the structure because of concerns about its stability and continued suppression efforts from the exterior.

The neighboring home sustained only exterior fire damage.

One occupant was treated at the scene by AMR personnel for smoke inhalation and declined transport to a hospital.

Southington units responding included Car 4, Car 3, Squad 5, Truck 1, Squad 1, Engine 12, and Engine 21.

According to the department, Squad 5 — staffed with an officer, driver, and firefighter — arrived quickly and “made an immediate impact,” with “an aggressive push on arrival” that stopped the fire from extending into the adjoining home and protected a nearby propane tank from flame exposure.

Firefighters from the Bristol and Meriden fire departments provided mutual aid.

Fire coverage for Southington during the incident was provided by the New Britain, Plainville, and Cheshire fire departments.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Southington Fire Marshal’s Office.
