Wallet Claimed at Southington Lost-and-Found Used for Illegal Shopping Spree: Cops

A man is facing several charges for an illegal shopping spree, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A man was charged after he claimed a wallet for "a friend" at a local grocery store's lost-and-found and then allegedly went on a shopping spree with bis real friend, Southington police said.

Scott Tenney, 28, of 303 New Haven Ave. Waterbury, surrendered on Monday at Southington Police Headquarters on an outstanding warrant for his arrest, police said.

The warrant charged him with sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny in the sixth degree, criminal attempt to commit larceny in the sixth degree, conspiracy to commit credit card theft, credit card theft, the illegal use of a credit card, conspiracy to commit the illegal use of a credit card, and second-degree breach of peace, police said.

The warrant was the result of an investigation into Tenney and an accomplice allegedly claiming a lost wallet at a local grocery store, stating they knew the owner and would get it back to him, police said.

Once the wallet was in their possession they allegedly used the credit cards to purchase items for themselves at several stores in the area, according to police.

Tenney was released on a $25,000 non surety bond and scheduled to appear in Bristol Superior Court on
Aug. 21, police said.
