Woman Accused of Embezzling From Youth Lacrosse Group in Southington
She was the treasurer of the organization and nearly $100K went missing, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A woman who had been serving as the treasurer for a local youth lacrosse organization has been a accused of embezzling nearly $100,000 from the group, police said.
Courtney Wells, 48, of Cambridge Drive, Southington, was arrested at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, police said. She surrendered on a pair of warrants, police said.
On the first warrant, Wells was charged with first-degree larceny and second-degree money laundering and assigned a $75,000 bond for the two, police said. On the second warrant, she was charged with first-degree larceny and first-degree forgery and assigned another $75,000 bond, police said.

The warrants were issued after an investigation lasting several months related to the embezzlement of $98,955.04 from the Southington Lacrosse Association’s bank account, police said.
The money was used for Wells’ own personal benefit, police said.

Wells was the Southington Lacrosse Association's treasurer from 2011 to 2016, police said.
A second investigation led detectives to an additional embezzlement of $376,099.55 from her employer, Jones Engineering, LLC, where she worked as a bookkeeper during this same time period, police said.
The investigation discovered Wells was using funds stolen from Jones Engineering to reimburse the funds stolen from Southington Lacrosse Association in an effort to pay back that money, police said.
Wells was to be arraigned at Bristol Superior Court Wednesday, police said.
