A suspect was taken into custody just over the state line in Massachusetts, police said.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — A person was shot and another was injured by bullet fragments during a workplace shooting off Route 5 Tuesday morning. Police said the shooting occurred at 8:43 a.m. in the parking lot of a small business complex at 105 Edwin Road.
Police said the shooter fled in a GMC Acadia and was taken into custody by Enfield police just over the state line in Massachusetts. A pistol was recovered at the time of the arrest, police said.
South Windsor police Sgt. Mark Cleverdon said the shooting victim sustained a bullet wound in the leg. Both people injured in the shooting sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

According to Enfield police Chief Alaric Fox, Officer Mike Colantuono heard a be-on-the-lookout bulletin on the police hotline for the shooter's vehicle. The bulletin indicated the vehicle was last seen on Interstate 291.
Colantuono positioned himself on I-91 northbound at Exit 48. He then observed a vehicle matching the description and radioed for assistance, Fox said.

Colantuono followed the vehicle "at a safe distance," Cleverdon said, and Massachusetts State Police stopped the vehicle on I-91 just north of the state line and took a suspect into custody.
The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, is being held as a fugitive from justice at the Massachusetts State Police barracks in Springfield. After an arrest warrant has been completed and he has waived extradition, he will be brought back to Connecticut. He will be charged in connection with the shooting once he is back in Connecticut, Cleverdon said.
