Alert Neighbor, Working Alarms Minimize Smoke Situation in South Windsor

South Windsor fire crews located a 26-year-old man and a 3-year-old child inside an apartment with a smoke condition around 2 a.m. Monday.

An alert neighbor and working smoke alarms helped minimize an incident at a South Windsor housing complex early Monday morning, according to fire officials.

A resident of 50 South Elm Street contacted the South Windsor Fire Department just after 2 a.m. on Nov. 30 after hearing a neighbor’s smoke alarm go off, according to a press release.

Within minutes members of the SWPD arrived and confirmed two occupants were inside the unit with a smoke condition.

Fire officials determined that the smoke was from unattended cooking contained to the stove top.

Occupants were attended by SWPD / Ambulance Service of Manchester (ASM) on scene and released.

The fire department ventilated the smoke and gases unit from to a safe level and occupants were able to remain.

“To the credit of working smoke alarms and an alert neighbor, this incident had a very positive outcome,” fire officials said.

In total, the SWFD responded with three Engines, Rescue and Tower Companies with 30 dedicated Firefighters and were assisted by SWPD / ASM.
