CL&P Transmission Construction to Take Place Later this Month

The following is a press release from CL&P

As a result of construction on a transmission reliability upgrade project taking place in Manchester, CL&P will need to take two of three transmission lines in the area out of service for approximately one day, currently scheduled for on or around September 17. No loss of power is expected from this planned transmission line outage.

As part of CL&P’s normal operating procedures in preparation for this planned event, CL&P had identified and addressed any unanticipated problems on the remaining active transmission line.  For this particular event, CL&P has:   
1. Instituted advanced patrols to take care of any area trouble spots or potential danger trees ahead of the scheduled work. 2. Placed a dedicated system operator in the control center so they can constantly monitor system conditions for anything unusual in this area and act accordingly. 3. Arranged for the pre-staging of crews to handle any emergency repairs.

In the unusual case that any emergency restoration would be required, it is estimated that the restoration would be completed in approximately 2 – 3 hours.

In order to complete this task as quickly as possible, we have received permission from the Connecticut Siting Council to work extra hours, up to 14 hours per day, in support of this planned event.

No additional steps on your part are necessary. We are simply notifying you of this activity so that you aware of the situation. We are also notifying the local police chief.
