Crowbar DNA Helps Cops Nab South Windsor Smash-And-Grab Suspect

A suspect in a year-and-a-half-old South Windsor burglary has been arrested, police said.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — A suspect in a year-and-a-half-old South Windsor burglary has been arrested, police said.

On Friday, South Windsor police arrested Alden Wilson Spalty, 49, whose last know address was in Newington, according to a report.

He was charged on a warrant with burglary and criminal mischief, both in the third degree, police said.

Spalty’s charges stem from a smash-and-grab incident at the Mobil Gas Station, 779 John Fitch Boulevard, in April 2018.

A crowbar left at the scene was determined to belong to Spalty after a DNA match, according to a report. He was also linked to several other similar burglaries in the region during the same time frame, a report indicates.

Spalty’s warrant was served at Manchester Superior Court and he was transferred back into state custody after the warrant was served, police said.
