Field Hockey: South Windsor High Defeats Glastonbury for First Time
Kat Adamo scored the game-winning goal, while Caitlin Gilligan made 14 saves for the Bobcats who improved to 4-1 on the year.

Last Friday’s field hockey game between South Windsor High and Glastonbury High featured several firsts.
The most important for South Windsor High in the 1-0 victory was that it represented the first time in program history that the Bobcats defeated the Tomahawks.
The two other firsts - first time scored upon in eight games and first loss of the season - were somewhat more ignominious for the Tomahawks.
Kat Adamo scored on an assist by Kelly Sicord with just five minutes remaining in the contest, and Caitlin Gilligan was stellar in the cage, making 14 saves to preserve the clean sheet for South Windsor.
All of which was enough to send the South Windsor parents and players into an emotional celebration when the final horn sounded.
“The girls and parents were in tears because many of them have worked so hard the four years that they have been in high school to beat Glastonbury, and haven't been successful,” South Windsor head coach Jennifer Bolduc wrote in an e-mail message Monday. “We were very close last year, and lost in the last few minutes of the game on a goal that was ricocheted off of one of our own players. Our biggest opponent wasn't them … it was ourselves. We needed to go out with confidence and believe in ourselves and each other. The team that did that was the team that would win … and we went all out!!! No guts, no glory!!!”
Bolduc wrote that the victory, which improved South Windsor’s record to 4-1, was “huge” for her program going forward.
“This was by far the best game I have seen my girls play,” Bolduc said. “The girls are so excited!!!! We just want to keep the ball rolling!!!”
Glastonbury fell to 7-1 on the year with the loss.
