The home was occupied by homeowners and their 20-year-old son. All three were in the on the first / main floor and were alerted by the working smoke alarm, according to the release.

They quickly realized the fire was in the basement level and there was too much smoke to attempt any type of extinguishment. They all self-evacuated and went to neighbors to call 911.

While members of the SWFD were on scene, the town of South Windsor was protected with mutual aid FD’s; Manchester 8th District, Ellington and Broad Brook.

The family was displaced for the night and a local hotel hosted them for the night.

The fire is under investigation by the South Windsor Fire Marshal’s Office.
