Get Your Berry On At South Windsor Strawberry Fest

Biggest event in South Windsor to celebrate 40 years on Saturday.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT —Area residents looking save on gas and enjoy a good time close to home might want to include South Windsor on their destination list Saturday.

That's because Saturday, June 11, will mark the 40th edition of the South Windsor Strawberry Festival and Craft Fair, an event celebrating the succulent berry along with a dose of community spirit.

The fun starts at 9 a.m. at Nevers Park, located of Chief Ryan Way in South Windsor, with the day of crafts, food, music and children's activities concluding at 5 p.m.

Organized by the South Windsor Republican Town Committee through hundreds of volunteers, the festival is considered the most attended community event in town.

Why? According to the event's website, one reason is visitors can gorge themselves on the "best strawberry shortcake around."

Regardless of the weather (the forecast is, tentatively, calling for a cloudy day), the event promises to be the place to be.

Locals choosing to attend will not only save on gas money, they can enjoy this tradition sans any admission fees, as the festival is always a freebie.

This will allow folks to indulge on good eats and crafty wares.

Local police this week announced a few tweaks to typical parking procedures, though there are plenty of spaces available nearby, according to organizers.

Police on Facebook Tuesday said general parking for the festival will not be allowed on Chief Ryan Way.

They did say handicap parking, crafters with a parking pass, bark park users and residents who reside on Andreis Trail will be the only ones allowed to use Chief Ryan Way.

According to the festival's website, parking is available on Nevers Road, at the South Windsor Community Center, the farmers market and nearby South Windsor High School.

Event organizers said there are plenty of parking signs and attendants to help, along with shuttle services for folks who might need a little help.
