LETTER: South Windsor Shouldn't Trap, Kill Beavers

An area resident opposes the beaver removal program at Nevers Park.

Letter to the editor:

Yesterday as I was walking in Nevers Park I saw a truck parked by the pond. My fears were confirmed , when I spoke to a trapper setting a trap . He admitted he was setting traps to catch and then kill the beavers who live in the park . He said the beavers would not be relocated as it is against state law. It saddens me that South Windsor officials decided to exterminate the beavers. Park walkers enjoy observing wildlife as we walk the wooded trails. Beavers create habitat for other species. They reduce trees , allow more sunlight into the woods allowing other plant life to grow. Suburban sprawl has pushed wildlife out of their homes. How sad the town decided the park beavers need to be killed. It would be nice if people could be more tolerant and coexist with wildlife instead of destroying it. I hope some one has a change of heart before it’s too late.
