Man Charged in Brutal South Windsor Pole Attack

A man wanted for allegedly attacking a woman with a pole in South Windsor was picked up in East Windsor.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — A man stands accused of beating a woman with a pole during a domestic dispute, South Windsor police said.

On Saturday, South Windsor officers were notified that a woman was at an area hospital after being assaulted by her boyfriend, according to a report.

Officers responded to the hospital and learned that the woman had been assaulted during an hour-long argument, according to a report.

She had been struck with a metal rod by the man and her phone was taken to prevent a call for help, according to a report.

The woman had bruises and lacerations as a result of the assault, according to a report.

The man, identified as 28-year-old Justin Tomel, was not home when officers went to his Main Street residence, but area police departments were notified that the suspect was wanted.

East Windsor police located the man early Sunday morning and took him into custody. South Windsor officers then charged Tomel with first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree strangulation, disorderly conduct, interfering with an emergency call, second-degree assault, second-degree threatening and second-degree restraint, according to a report.

Tomel was held on $75,000 surety bond and was to appear in Manchester Superior Court on Monday, police said.
