Man Charged in Smash-and-Grab Burglary in South Windsor

Police recently arrested a 55-year-old man in connection to a car burglary.

A Bristol man has been charged with smashing a car window and stealing a purse in connection to a May burglary.

South Windsor Police arrested Vincent Whitely, 55, of 93 Rhoda Lane, on a warrant Nov. 13 and charged him with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, illegal use of credit cards and sixth-degree larceny.

Police said Whitely’s charges stem from a May 2015 burglary into a motor vehicle that occurred on Rye Street. The suspect had smashed a window and stolen the victim’s purse.

The victim’s credit card was used at a local retail store and the transaction was captured on security cameras, according to police.

The suspect was later identified as Whitely and an arrest warrant was obtained for him. He was held on a $65,000 surety bond.
