Muddy Boots Lead To Arrest In South Windsor Battery Theft Case

Missing motorcycle batteries have led to charges against a South Windsor woman, police said.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — The theft of motorcycle batteries has led to charges against a South Windsor woman, police said.

Just beore 8 Thursday morning, South Windsor police arrested Melanie M. Marcoux, 32, of South Windsor on an active warrant.

batteries from a shipping container at Max BMW Motorcycles, 1535 John Fitch Boulevard (Route 5).

During the course of the investigation, officers located several items of "evidentiary value," including a headlamp, in a muddy area between the rear of the business where the shipping container is located and a residential neighborhood on Fitch Meadow Lane, according to a report.

Officers located muddy boots on the front door step of 36 Fitch Meadow Lane — Marcoux's listed address — and later reviewed surveillance footage and receipts from a local scrap metal facility that indicated she had scrapped several used motorcycle batteries using her state identification, according to a report.

Marcoux later admitted to the theft in an interview with police, according to a report.

She was initially held on a $35,000 surety bond and was to appear in Manchester Superior Court Thursday to face charges that include third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal trespass, third-degree criminal mischief and sixth-degree larceny, according to a police.
