Murphy, McMahon Sweep South Windsor in Primaries
In primaries marked by low voter turnout, Republican Linda McMahon and Democrat Chris Murphy got their party's respective nod to face one another for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Joe Lieberman.

There wasn’t much of a surprise in Tuesday’s Primary in South Windsor, as registered voters in town gave the nods to Republican Linda McMahon and Democrat Chris Murphy over Chris Shays and Susan Bysiewicz, respectively.
The primary, which had just the U.S. Senate candidates for both parties on the ballots - was marked by low voter turnout. Just 18 percent of registered Democrats (1,001 out of 5,625) and 26 percent of registered Republicans (889 out of 3,406) - voted on Tuesday.
Both Murphy and McMahon swept all five voting districts in South Windsor.
As expected, Republican Linda McMahon and Democrat Chris Murphy will face off in November for the right to succeed Joe Lieberman in the U.S. Senate.
With 77 percent of the precincts reporting at 10 p.m., McMahon was soundly defeating former U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays with 76 percent of the vote. Meanwhile, Murphy cruised by Bysiewicz, the Middletown native and former Secretary of the State, by a comfortable 66 percent to 34 percent margin.
