New Details Released On South Windsor Cop's Death
A South Carolina Sheriff's Office has released a report on the assault of the officer at a bar.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT - New details emerged following the deadly assault of a decorated police officer at a South Carolina bar early Sunday morning, the Hartford Courant reported. Matthew Mainieri, 41, died of his injuries Sunday afternoon after attempting to break up a fight at Murrells Inlet bar and being struck in the head.
A Georgetown County Sheriff's Office corporal arrived at the scene outside the bar at 12:45 a.m. Mainieri was lying in a dirt lot with a group of people attempting to resuscitate him and two nurses alternating performing chest compressions on him.
Mainieri was rushed to Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital, but an EMT told the corporal that by the time they loaded him into the ambulance, he no longer had a pulse, according to the Hartford Courant.

His assailant had fled the scene in a silver SUV. However, police later caught Kelton Todd, who is accused of assaulting Mainieri. He has been charged with assault of a high and aggravated nature in connection with Mainieri's injuries, as well as third-degree assault and battery charges related to the fight. He posted bond on Monday.
Meanwhile in South Windsor, the community mourned the loss of an officer who had served for more than 20 years. South Windsor Fire released the following statement: "Sad and tragic news from our brothers and sisters at South Windsor Police. We mourn with them, and extend our deepest condolences to both the police and personal families of Sergeant Matthew Mainieri. Rest In Peace #155."
