New Police Chief Appointed In South Windsor

A veteran of more than 20 years service will take over as police chief this weekend.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Deputy Chief Kristian Lindstrom has been appointed to the position of chief of the South Windsor Police Department, effective Sunday, according to Town Manager Michael Maniscalco.

"Through this process, it has become very apparent that Deputy Chief Lindstrom will bring the position of chief countless years of experience, an unparalleled community knowledge and a caring for every person in the town of South Windsor," Maniscalco said in a written statement. "I am confident he will lead the men and women of the South Windsor Police Department into the future maintaining their position delivering high quality police services to the residents, businesses and visitors in our community."

Lindstrom replaces Chief Scott Custer, who announced three weeks ago he would retire on Sept. 18 after 31 years of service to the department.

"I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to lead the fine men and women of this agency into tomorrow," Lindstrom said in the statement. "I look forward to not only maintaining the existing strong relationships within the community, but also fostering any struggling relationships as we all work together to ensure that the residents and visitors of South Windsor receive the excellent public safety product that they all deserve."

Lindstrom was hired as a South Windsor police officer in Aug. 1998. Throughout his career, he has served as a patrol officer, field training officer, training and recruiting coordinator, school resource officer, patrol supervisor, criminal investigations unit manager, special services division commander and deputy chief. He previously served as a hostage/crisis negotiator with the Capital Region Emergency Services Team.
